This article sparked quite a flurry of response on various composition listservs when it was published last week.  To my eye, Teller expresses many commonsense, commonplace opinions based on several presumptions about how literacy skills are acquired, what they mean, and how we’d like them to function in our society.  Needless to say, I think his argument is myopic, uninformed, and under-theorized.  Enjoy!  ADP
